Artificial Intelligence Policy
Guidelines for the responsible use of AI in Archipel.
FOR AUTHORS
A. Ethical and Responsible Use
- Authors must clearly disclose any use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools during the research process — whether for data processing, analysis, or writing assistance. Any AI-generated content used in the manuscript must be properly attributed.
- Authors must follow privacy and data protection rules, especially when AI tools handle personal, sensitive, or identifiable data.
- Authors are responsible for identifying and addressing potential bias in AI systems to keep the research fair and valid.
- AI-generated or AI-assisted content must respect intellectual property rights and copyright.
B. AI in Research Methodology and Data Analysis
- Authors should think carefully about whether an AI tool is appropriate for the task, considering accuracy, reliability, and how well it fits the research goals.
- Findings produced with the help of AI must be checked through standard research procedures so that the results can be relied on and reproduced.
- The journal encourages the use of AI tools that produce explainable outputs, since this makes it easier for readers to understand how findings were reached.
C. Academic Integrity and Originality
- AI assistance must be acknowledged following accepted academic disclosure standards.
- Manuscripts submitted to Archipel must reflect the authors' own intellectual contributions, analysis, and reasoning. They should not rely solely on AI-generated material.
- AI cannot be listed as an author. Authorship requires accountability that AI tools cannot provide.
D. Transparency in Peer Review and Collaboration
- Authors must disclose any AI use that is relevant to the peer review stage or to collaborative work.
- Research teams should agree on rules for AI use, data management, and authorship at the start of the project.
FOR REVIEWERS
Reviewers must treat manuscripts as confidential. Uploading manuscripts to AI platforms may breach confidentiality and data protection rules, especially if the manuscript contains personal or sensitive data. Reviewers are fully responsible for the content of their evaluations.
FOR EDITORS
Editors must keep submitted manuscripts confidential and should not upload manuscript content into generative AI tools. Doing so may breach confidentiality and ethical publishing standards.
